How to Make Red Lentil Puree for Baby
Lentils are easy to digest and add protein to a meal. They’re a great staple to have in your freezer to bulk up baby meals. Use up to three frozen cubes mixed with rice and vegetables.
PREP TIME: 5 mins, plus overnight soaking
COOK TIME: 55 mins
½ cup split red lentils
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 Put the lentils and lemon juice in a medium saucepan, cover with water and let soak, covered, overnight.
2 Drain and rinse the lentils. Return them to the pan and add scant 2 cups water. Bring to a boil over high heat and boil for 10 minutes, skimming any scum that rises to the surface. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 45 minutes until completely soft. If using a blender with a plastic container, let the mixture cool completely before blending.
3 Transfer the lentils and cooking liquid to a blender and blend for 1 minute until smooth. Serve warm, reheating if necessary.
